Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's production company will use inclusion riders

Academy Award winners and producing partners Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are adopting an inclusion rider in their Pearl Street Films contracts, in an effort to promote more racial and gender equality in Hollywood. On behalf of Pearl Street Films, Matt Damon, @BenAffleck, Jennifer Todd, Drew Vinton & I will be adopting the #InclusionRider for all of our projects moving forward.

The news comes from Fanshen Cox DiGiovanni, Head of Strategic Outreach at their joint production company Pearl Street Films. And now, his decision has directly inspired a few more big stars: Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.

In the announcement DiGiovani also referred to actor Michael B. Jordan's announcement last week that his company, Outlier Society Productions, would adopt riders for its projects.

"There has always been available, to everybody that does a negotiation on a film, an inclusion rider, which means that you can ask for and/or demand at least 50 percent diversity in not only the casting but also the crew", McDormand explained to reporters on March 4. Invite us into our office in a couple of days - or you can come to ours, whichever suits you best - and we'll tell you all about them. "I have two words to leave with you tonight, ladies and gentlemen: "inclusion rider".

Both Affleck and Damon have been embroiled in the Harvey Weinstein scandal and #MeToo movement. During a 2015 segment of the show "Project Greenlight", the Cambridge native rebuffed the suggestion of producer Effie Brown ("Dear White People") to hire a white woman and a Vietnamese-American man to co-direct a "Greenlight"-backed film featuring a minority character who is a prostitute". Actress Hilarie Burton claimed on social media that Affleck groped her during an appearance of MTV's Total Request Live in 2003. I was 24 years old.
