Venus wins battle of the Williams sisters

Venus wins battle of the Williams sisters

In 2001 they were slated to meet in the Indian Wells semi-finals when Venus withdrew, handing Serena a walkover. But it was intriguing.

Venus Williams cut her younger sister Serena's comeback short by defeating her in the third round of Indian Wells Open on Monday.

She will now take on No. 21-seeded Anastasija Sevastova in her next match with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line. Serena, who leads the sisterly series 17-12 but is coming off a full year's maternity leave, was not seeded in this tournament, and the rustiness was on full view Monday night.

It was an unfamiliar situation for Serena, with Venus responding to everything thrown at her, including a pair of break points, which she saved.

"Who would have ever thought at 37 years old that you wold be back at the top of the mountain and playing this kind of tennis, what does the journey feel like to you?" the interviewer Krasny asked her after the match "Well Andrew I never go around talking about how old you are" she joked in reply. "I'm in the margin, at least".

"That's, you know, totally gone out of my mind", Serena said Saturday.

Theni forest fire: Nine people charred to death and several others critical
The Theni Collector has informed me that ambulances with doctors are positioned downhill to render all medical aid for the girls. The Collector added that the rescue of others struck in the area has become very hard due lack of adequate lighting facilities.

"I managed to get my feet going more, and to start playing more steady, and that paid off today", said Wozniacki. I don't think I have a favorite match.

"I'm getting there but I have a long way to go", Williams said.

But there were sublime moments to thrill the crowd that packed Stadium 1. Fans who felt cheated of a chance to see the siblings play, thinking it was a tactic orchestrated by their father Richard, booed Serena during her final triumph against Kim Clijsters.

Later, Serena hit a drop shot, Venus responded with a drop shot, and Serena answered that by shooting a volley past Venus and punctuating it with a big yell.

"Obviously I wish it was anybody else in the draw, literally anybody, but that's OK", Serena said. Venus' forehand was long and she double-faulted away the game to make it 5-3. Yeah, she's already the greatest of all time when it comes to women's tennis, but he reminded her that she's also the world's greatest mom. Two more winners then handed the older sister victory in one hour and 25 minutes.

No matter her parental status, the newly married player still maintains her competitive spirit.
