The moves keep coming: Browns trade DL Danny Shelton to Patriots

One day after trading for Jarvis Landry, Tyrod Taylor, and Damarious Randall, the Browns are back on the trade market.

A person familiar with the negotiations says the Cleveland Browns have agreed to trade defensive tackle Danny Shelton to the New England Patriots for a future draft pick. This move is the fourth trade by new Browns general manager John Dorsey over the course of 24 hours.

The Browns chose to trade Shelton after the defensive line unit featuring Trevon Coley, Larry Ogunjobi, and Caleb Brantley played exceptionally well last season.

A 12th-overall draft pick in 2015, Shelton has recorded 128 combined tackles and just 1.5 sacks through 46 games during his three years in the National Football League and wasn't seen as a good fit for the team's new defensive regime. According to ESPN, his "skill-set should fit well" in the Patriots' young, run-focused hybrid defense.

The 6-foot-2, 335-pound Shelton was a three-year letter victor for the Washington Huskies, and earned both first-team All-America and CoSIDA Academic All-America first-team honors in 2014.

February's surplus did edge downwards from the $21.9 billion recorded in January and $25.6 billion from December. China does not want a trade war, but it will respond in event of a rise in tariffs that harm its interests.

For the Browns, Shelton's departure opens roster and cap space; he is due about $2 million in guaranteed base salary next year and has a fifth-year option for 2019.

The New England Patriots quickly addressed their need at defensive tackle by replacing Alan Branch on their defensive front. At best, the Patriots just added a full-time starter. Though, Shelton did start 44 of a possible 48 games during that span.

The Browns made 10 first-round picks between 2009 and 2015. Wilson said Mathieu would be a ideal fit in New England, as he is also capable of playing cornerback and inside linebacker in sub-packages.

Shelton joins Malcom Brown, Lawrence Guy, Adam Butler and Vincent Valentine on the Patriots' defensive tackle depth chart.
