Curry suffers nasty ankle injury against Spurs

In the first quarter of Golden State's game vs. the Spurs on Thursday, Curry stepped awkwardly on Dejounte Murray's foot after he landed amid the tight baseline quarters on a layup attempt, turning his right ankle and hobbling up the tunnel, where he stayed bent over for several tense moments.

On the season, he is averaging 26.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 6.3 assists.

Curry was injured on the Warriors' sixth possession of the game. "Kevin was instrumental in that, just kind of taking over the huddle and taking over the game".

Durant's 14-footer from the right wing with 3:14 left got Golden State within 103-101, and then he answered a Spurs basket with another jumper the next time. After LaMarcus Aldrige made two free throws and Durant one, San Antonio guard Bryn Forbes' three-point try to tie it clanged off the front rim as the buzzer sounded. LaMarcus Aldridge led the way with 30 points (on 11-of-20 shooting) and 17 rebounds, nearly single-handedly keeping the Spurs afloat.

"If you're going to win, you have to go on the road anyway".

Curry, who missed most of December with a right ankle sprain, reinjured the ankle just over two minutes into Friday's (AEDT) game against the Spurs. The team decided midway through the second quarter he wouldn't return after getting re-tapped and trying functionality tests with the training staff.

With 17 regular-season games left, Golden State is a half-game behind Houston for the Western Conference's No. 1 seed.

Kerr is more concerned about health than the No. 1 seed now. "I haven't heard of anything like this before but I don't think it will keep him out too long and hopefully it gets resolved".

Aldridge was coming off a dud on Monday in which he scored 7 points, so it was nice to see him have a big game.

Thompson began 2 for 10 and missed his first three tries from 3 before connecting from the top early in the fourth.

The nervous fans recognized that the severity of Curry's latest ankle injury was far more important than the outcome of Thursday's game. McHale was on the call for TNT's broadcast of the game.
