Scott McTominay commits global future to Scotland

McTominay was eligible for both national sides, having been born in Lancashire with a Glaswegian father, however says he will play for Scotland instead of the country of his birth.

Joey Barton has joked that Scott McTominay chose to represent Scotland over England because he "clearly wants summers off".

"He obviously wants his summers off", Barton said, per the Daily Record.

According to The Times, McTominay had sat down with both Southgate and McLeish ahead of making his decision.

You can always rely on Barton for a controversial reaction to a football story; however, there might be England fans out there nodding along with the former Manchester City and Newcastle United star.

"He has shown his ambition hasn't he?"

One-cap England global Barton has criticised this decision, suggesting McTominay would rather go on holiday than play in major tournaments.

When will beast from the east loosen its grip on Lincolnshire?
Plymouth Council said more than 80 schools would be closed on Thursday, with more than 50 in Newcastle and 103 across Devon remaining shut.

"Maybe Man United and Fergie have influenced him?"

"He'll be desperate to look at a lot of players, especially the young players that are around just now, and he'll want to see as many people as possible in these friendly games to make the decisions for the important games coming up next season".

"It would have been easy, financially, to go in the England side and if you're in the Manchester United squad there's a good chance you'll get called up by England".

"So fair play to the boy if he feels like a passionate Scotsman, it can only be a good thing for Scotland because he's a seriously talented player".

Instead, he now faces the very real possibility of never playing in a major worldwide tournament.

McTominay has been associated with United since he was five and made his senior debut against Arsenal last May.
