Snap reportedly working on new Spectacles, including two-camera version

It has been reported that Snap will launch a new version of their smart Spectacles this year.

Snap's claimed a year ago that its Spectacles "exceeded expectations" with more than 150,000 units sold, but reports in October suggested that the company was stuck with hundreds of thousands of unsold devices.

Sources familiar with the matter tell Cheddar that Snap is now manufacturing a second version of Spectacles for launch this fall.

The current Snap Spectacles record 10-second videos with a tap, which can then be uploaded to your Snapchat story.

ZTE's Blade series is a tier under the top-of-the-line Axon series, and as such garners somewhat of a mid-range distinction. It features a simplistic plastic design, along with a 5-inch, 854 x 480 display, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable storage.

See Cheddar's report here. Snap's first-generation Spectacles are considered to have been a flop, with the company saying in November that it had to write down nearly $40 million in relation to the Spectacles, mostly due to " excess inventory and purchase commitment cancellations". These new spectacles will come with improved performance and new features. The new spectacles will be resistant.

Snap responding to an inquiry by saying, "We aren't confirming or commenting on this report".

Additionally, the giant is reportedly working on the third edition of the Spectacles as well. Snap confirmed those reports during an earnings call in November, when it revealed that the unsold units cost the company $40 million.

According to The Verge, Snap is also now working on a deal with glasses company Luxottica and Warby Parker to license out its camera technology.
