Clippers and Lou Williams agree to 3-year extension

The NBA trade deadline is February 8.

According to reports, guard Lou Williams, 31, has agreed to a three-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Clippers.

It appeared the Clippers may be clearing house after trading away Blake Griffin, but the team is committing to Williams as it transitions to a future with a core of Tobias Harris, Danilo Gallinari and Williams.

Two names, heading into tomorrow's National Basketball Association trade deadline, that are pretty much expected to be moved are Lou Williams and DeAndre Jordan.

Williams was rumored to be one of the players most likely to be dealt before the February 8 deadline, but that will no longer happen this season. Stay up to date on the latest news, rumors and rumblings from our team of reporters. In an update to his original report, Charania says Williams' three-year deal is worth $24 million. He's averaging a career-high 23.3 points per game while helping keep the Clippers in the playoff hunt despite a rash of injuries across their roster.

Williams' name was mentioned in trade talks over the last several weeks.

The combination of his scoring abilities and now a three-year contract extension, makes him an enticing piece for a team that is looking to contend for a title in the next few seasons. His strong performances garnered interest from teams throughout the league, including the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers, Oklahoma City Thunder and Minnesota Timberwolves. The Clippers also, of course, traded Chris Paul to the Rockets before the season started, and there's still a good chance center DeAndre Jordan gets traded before the deadline.
