Trump ends year as 'most unpopular' president

Just one year into President Donald Trump's term, global approval of USA leadership fell to its lowest point in almost two decades, according to a Gallup poll published Thursday.

The poll also found that when asked to pick a word to describe how they felt about the president's first year in office, 38 percent of those surveyed selected a negative description and 23 percent chose a positive word. The previous low was held by Bill Clinton, whose first-year average stood 10 points higher than Trump's, at 49 percent. Fifty-seven percent of those surveyed disapprove of his performance - including 51 percent who say they strongly disapprove.

According to the poll, 46 per cent of men approve of Trump while just 33 per cent of women responded the same.

Gallup sampled 1,000 people per country in 134 countries in a variety of face-to-face, landline telephone and cellphone interviews, and considers its results accurate to within two and five percentage points, depending on the country.

And researchers say that this means salmon caught anywhere along the Pacific coast of the United States may have tapeworm. A Fresno man turned up at a local emergency room carrying a 5-foot-long tapeworm he pulled out of his own intestine.

A new Economist/YouGov poll that was also released on Friday showed every adult member of the Trump clan with "underwater favourability" ratings.

President Trump is facing his first annual performance review, and while support from many who voted for him is still strong, the president's first year in office is facing harsh reviews from many other corners. Trump's closest precedent is Gerald Ford, who had a net approval rating of just +5 points one year in.

At the same time in her husband's term, Michelle Obama was viewed favourably by 57 per cent of the same poll's respondents, and unfavourably by 30 per cent, the Beast said.
