Israel PM Netanyahu to visit India on Jan 14

India had initially sealed the deal to buy Israel's Spike anti-tank guided missiles from Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, with reports at the time saying India was set to purchase 8,000 Spike missiles and 300 launchers in a deal worth some $500 million.

It will be the second visit by an Israeli Prime Minister to India after a gap of 15 years since Ariel Sharon visited New Delhi in 2003. The DRDO missiles are yet to be tested and will not be ready till 2022, which could hit India's operational capabilities in the interim, Rawat said.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu next week will be leading a delegation of 130 businessmen to India, where meetings and discussions will surround energy, defense, agriculture and other possible avenues of cooperation.

India, along with more than 120 countries, had voted in favour of a United Nations General Assembly resolution calling for the United States to drop its recent decesion to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

The visit marks the high point of the 25th anniversary of normal diplomatic ties between the two countries.
