'Bad deal': Trump cancels London trip for embassy opening, blames Obama

US President Donald Trump said late Thursday he no longer plans to attend the opening of a new US embassy in London.

Lastly, and perhaps most significantly, the decision to move the embassy and build a new one (as well as the choice for its new location) was made while George W. Bush was still president, not during Obama's administration.

"Bad deal", Trump said, adding "wanted me to cut ribbon - NO!"

Last month, PM Theresa May's cabinet minister Sam Gyimah had said he would feel "deeply uncomfortable" if President Trump's visit went ahead after May clashed with Trump over U.S. president retweets of far-right anti-Muslim propaganda, Britain First.

Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, said the President's tweet made clear that it had been a mistake for May to move so quickly to extend the invitation to Trump past year. "And you got the message".

As pointed out by Khan, this would be largely because of "his divisive agenda" on racial and cultural issues, but is surely also spurred on by Trump's sharing of a Britain First tweet last month.

Reports about Trump's visit to the United Kingdom have been circulating since the beginning of 2017, when May invited the U.S. president on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen to visit the country.

Chris Hemsworth and Margot Robbie's quiz show battle
Margot Robbie and Chris Hemsworth went head to head to find out who the best Aussie is in a game of " Ellen's Australian Boxers". In the end, despite losing a point for not giving his Byron Bay address out on television, Chris won the trivia battle.

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is expected to take the president's place next month.

It comes after Theresa May initially extended an invitation for Donald Trump to come on an official state visit where the Queen would act as Trump's host.

However, since then, Trump irked many in the United Kingdom after retweeting anti-Muslim videos from a leader of Britain's far right.

"He's been to countries all over the world and yet he's not been to the one with whom he's closest", Farage told BBC Radio Four's Today programme.

He said: "I think it more reflects the fact that other people criticise in French, Italian, and Korean and various other languages, and we criticise in English".

The old United States embassy, in a historic square in the exclusive Mayfair neighbourhood, was deemed to be vulnerable to terrorist attacks.
