Trump to attend Davos economic forum: White House

Since the gathering began in 1971, the event has become synonymous with global elites - a group that Mr. Trump attacked during the 2016 campaign while vowing to improve the lives of America's working men and women.

Free trade is especially popular among Davos attendees.

On the American side, President Clinton was the last to attend the Forum in 2000. Onetime Trump adviser Anthony Scaramucci also appeared in a panel at Davos past year.

American administrations regularly send representatives to Davos, but presidents often decline to attend. A year before the consensus had been that he would not win the presidency.

President Trump will attend the World Economic Forum, a gathering of leaders, bankers and economists in Switzerland later this month, the White House says.

US Democratic senator releases Fusion GPS testimony in Russian Federation probe
Russian Federation has denied allegations of election meddling and Trump denies any collusion by his campaign with Moscow. Democrats on the committee said they were not consulted ahead of the Republicans' referral to the Department of Justice.

"The President's message is very much the same here as it will be there", Sanders said.

Trump goes to Davos after backing out of a Pacific Rim trade agreement and repudiating the Paris Climate accord.

The annual conference, to be held January 23-26, has brought together worldwide leaders of nations, business and finance at the Alpine ski resort since 1971 to discuss global cooperation. He withdrew the US from the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a trade agreement between Pacific Rim countries, and pulled out of the Paris climate accord, a commitment to reduce carbon emissions.

This year's theme reflects the gathering's global flavor: "Creating a Shared Future in a Fractured World".

At the same time, the bankers and company bosses present in Switzerland will likely welcome the corporate tax cut Trump recently delivered as well as the surging stock market he likes to take credit for.
