China Plans New Naval Base in Pakistan

The U.S. State Department asserts that Taliban and Haqqani network fighters are using western Pakistan as a base for their attacks on government forces in Afghanisan, and American officials complain that Pakistan is doing too little to combat them.

The media in China and overseas said that Pakistan offered the key location to China as a retaliation to US President Donald Trump's New Year Day criticism of Islamabad for not cracking down on terrorist safe havens in the country.

The MoU was signed by Ambassador Khalid and President of China Foreign Affairs Studies University, Qin Yaqing.

"Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)", the senior administration official said on condition of anonymity.

China Monday made it clear that it is opposed to the U.S. "finger pointing" at Pakistan and linking its all-weather ally with terrorism, insisting that the responsibility of combating terror outfits can not be placed on a particular country. The US is seeking to work with other regional players and China would be one of the main ones to deal with this issue.

She was selected for Staffordshire Moorlands in July 2006 and was returned to Parliament at the general election in 2010. Greening said: "Clearly, there are immediate challenges".

Chaturvedy added, "Indian naval capabilities and experience in the Indian Ocean region are fairly good - much better than Pakistan and China". "It is taking a more active role in this regard".

"That relationship is already very very strong. And the second issue is that China is also concerned about terrorism and extremism in South Asia", the official said.

In what could be seen as a sign of increasing tension between the U.S. and Pakistan, US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley recently confirmed that its administration is all set to withhold USD255 million in aid to the south Asian nation. "As far as possible Pakistan wants to engage with the USA because it is not only a global power but also has its presence in the region", she said. "This is all propaganda against the development of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and strengthening of relations between Pakistan and China", Foreign Office spokesman Mohammad Faisal said.

The Trump administration has suspended about Dollars 2 billion in security aid to Pakistan for failing to clamp down on the Afghan Taliban and the Haqqani Network terror groups and dismantle their safe havens.
