New Zealand viewers wanting to see what all the fuss is about will have to wait to see some of the night's biggest winning movies. In fact, all of the night's multiple award winners were stories about women: "Lady Bird", "The Shape of Water", "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel", and "The Handmaid's Tale". Three Billboards won the award for Best Motion Picture - Drama, besting some powerhouse competition in the form of The Shape of Water, The Post, Dunkirk and Call Me by Your Name. McDormand echoed the sentiments of the night in her speech, touching on the issues of sexual harassment and gender inequality that had prompted numerous ceremony's attendees to wear black as a show of solidarity.
