Barkley cited his own injury as the reason for the change of mind back then - he hasn't played all season in fact, after undergoing surgery in July - though it seemed like that he really wanted to join Spurs instead.

Chelsea have announced the signing of Ross Barkley from Everton, the playmaker joining the Premier League champions for a reported £15million.

The midfielder will wear the No. 8 shirt for his new club and will soon be available to play first-team football once again, following his lay-off through a hamstring injury sustained in the summer.

Former England coach Steve McClaren is backing Ross Barkley for success with new club Chelsea. But that hard work starts now for Barkley - as we have seen with many players, talent is not enough to get you to the top.

Chelsea's top-flight title defence has faded amid Manchester City's stunning form, with Antonio Conte's men facing a 16-point deficit to the summit.

He said things will likely get worse before improving. "Thirty percent protection is still better than zero". These higher-risk patients will have priority in Cottage Hospitals emergency departments, the hospital said.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea's FA Cup third round tie at Norwich on Saturday and prior to the deal being confirmed, Conte said: 'We are talking about an English player, a young player.

'He possesses outstanding technical and physical attributes, matched with good experience of the Premier League and a strong desire to succeed at the highest level. "He is a complete player but at the same time he is very young and he has just started his career".

He now has a great chance to become a key player for one of the biggest clubs in Europe and England.

"It's a good prospect, but at the same time it will be very important to understand when he can recover from injury, because don't forget he had a bad injury and hasn't been playing for seven months".

Barkley is out of contract at Goodison Park at the end of the season and Toffees boss Sam Allardyce admitted on Thursday the club are "resigned to losing him".
