'Mama Mia 2' Trailer: Did They Really Kill Off a Favorite Character?

'Mama Mia 2' Trailer: Did They Really Kill Off a Favorite Character?

Queens will surely be dancing at the news that the full trailer has arrived for Mamma Mia! No, it's not Meryl Streep - who only shows up here in flashbacks from the original movie - but it's someone who's worked with her before. This, as I'm sure you recall, is a major plot point in Mamma Mia! .

Ten years after the original film hit theaters, the upcoming sequel welcomes the return of Amanda Seyfried as Sophie, who reveals she is pregnant but nervous to be a single mom. And did we hear Walters say "your mother was the bravest person we ever met?" before Baranski launches into Streep's character's life story? The trailer also offers the first glimpse of Cher as Sophie's grandmother, which is reason enough on its own to see the film. More than likely the story will keep jumping back and forth in time, because you don't have an all-star cast that includes Meryl Streep and use the stars sparingly.

Streep played Donna Sheridan, a retired pop singer living on a Greek island, and the mum of Amanda Seyfried's character, in the first flick from 2008. So we get to see the young Donna (Lily James) and the possible fathers for the first time.

Helen Mirren also joins the film as the regent for the Fourth Tyrant, where Clara must go in order to retrieve the coveted key. Chocolat director Lasse Hallström is bringing The Nutcracker and the Four Realms to life from Ashleigh Powell's screenplay.

Almost 10 years after it hit theaters, Mamma Mia, the movie based on the Broadway musical, is getting a sequel.

As good as it was, another fan tweeted that Cher's entrance seemed to have a lot in common with another classic movie entrance.

One Twitter user wrote: "If donna is dead in mamma mia 2 then 2018 is cancelled". Extra casting bonus: Cher, in her first role since 2010, is playing Donna's mother, Ruby. It was directed and written by Ol Parker, who takes over helming duties from Mamma Mia! director Phyllida Lord. New ABBA songs featured in Mamma Mia!
