An officer with the Pembroke Pines Police Department was seriously injured yesterday after being dragged a half-mile by a fleeing suspect.

Cusack eventually let go, and Cabrera led officers on a 20-mile chase. "He was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood where he will undergo surgery for "significant road rash injuries" to his arms and legs", police said.

The female passenger in the vehicle during the incident has not been charged, police say. "Obviously, when he was being dragged, it just went right through his boots", Marano said.

Cabrera admitted using cocaine and heroin with his fiancée inside the vehicle, police said.

According to WTVJ, other officers pursued the suspect's vehicle in a high-speed chase that reached speeds over 100 miles per hour. Cabrera takes off dragging Cusack as he holds on to the door's frame.

It began when the Honda traveled west in the eastbound lanes of Pines Boulevard, the arrest report said.

The officer's backup help pursued the vehicle as it hopped on nearby Interstate 75, raced north to I-595, then got on eastbound I-595.

A Florida cop is recovering after he was almost dragged to his death by a suspect's vehicle after the driver took off during a traffic stop, authorities said. Later, when questioned by police, Cabrera allegedly admitted to using cocaine and heroin on the day in question.

Cabrera is now facing attempted murder of an officer as well as reckless driving charges. His bond hearing is scheduled for Thursday morning.
