Cavaliers want Isaiah Thomas to play in G-League before return

It looks like Isaiah Thomas won't be playing in the Cleveland Cavaliers' highly anticipated marquee matchup against the Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day.

Thomas, who has not played since the playoffs of last season due to a hip injury, is reportedly set to scrimmage with the Cavs' affiliate G League team, the Canton Charge, this week, according to sources of ESPN's Dave McMenamin.

McMenamin's update comes after Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports reported Thomas is striving to return by the first week of January.

Thomas has missed the entire season so far as he continues to recover from an injury to his right hip.

All signs seems to be pointing to Thomas being on the floor for his return to the Garden if all goes well over the next two weeks in what will be perhaps the most anticipated game in the National Basketball Association this season.

Things did not work out for Zaha at Old Trafford however, and he moved back to Palace after just one season with the Red Devils. Wilfried Zaha has been the shining light in what has been a hard season for Crystal Palace thus far.

The final decision on when Thomas will return will be agreed upon by Thomas, Cleveland's front office and their medical staff.

For Thomas, the full burn will have to wait until May, with the Cavaliers and Celts, proving their worth as the East's top two teams, still expected to meet in the third round of postseason play. The Cavs are 22-8, second-best in the Eastern Conference, behind Thomas' former Boston Celtics.

"I don't know where that came from, but I hope so", coach Ty Lue said on Sunday.

Cleveland plays the at home on January 2, followed by the Boston Celtics on the road January 3.

After a rocky start, the Wine and Gold have reeled off 18 wins from their last 19 games and are rolling at the moment.
