The OnePlus 5T can't stream HD video from Netflix, Amazon Prime, others

According to a report by The Verge, the limitation is not for just Netflix, but video streaming services like Amazon Prime Video, Google Play Movies and others are also facing compatibility issues on the device.

The top post on the forum notes, "I would like to know why a £500 phone is not capable of fully utilising these very popular services and if there are any plans to rectify this clearly ridiculous issue." .

On further testing by some of the users, it was found that the OnePlus 5 also supports only Widevine Level 3.

Given that these smartphones from OnePlus support Widevine Level 3 now, it is unable for users to stream videos in HD from these popular apps mentioned above.

Over at the official OnePlus forums, users have been complaining about this for over a week now.

They should be heard and they should be dealt with. "I think we heard from them prior to the election". Moore has repeatedly denied the allegations.

The 5T is now certified for the L3 security level of Google's Widevine DRM regulation which blocks playing back content in high definition.

There's now no date for the software update with the fix to land, with OnePlus simply saying "we're working on it" when pushed on a release timeframe. Specifically, both smartphones support Widevine Level 3 DRM, but that doesn't offer HD streaming functionality. "I am massively surprised this has not been brought up in reviews/not had a bigger fuss made about as this is completely unacceptable for a brand that is now well established!" the thread starter writes. So, it promised to bring Widevine Level 1 support for OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 5 in the future update.

Although OnePlus 5T is capable of playing most of the high-resolution videos, it doesn't support HD streaming on popular services.

Why can't OnePlus 5 or OnePlus 5T stream in HD? Moreover, OnePlus added they would get Widevine Level 1 support for OnePlus 5 and 5T with a new software update. So, yeah, it means that both of these phones can't stream videos on Netflix and other platforms. There is no time frame given for this update though.
