Winter storm warning remains in effect, 5-7 inches of snow forecast

As the system continues to develop this morning, snow showers fill in through about 10 A.M., and then becomes a period of light snow, especially for the eastern half of the region. The heavy snow band moved across Austin and San Antonio, to Houston and the beaches of Galveston and Corpus Christi, where 7 inches of snow fell in some areas.

Accumulations of five to seven inches are expected across the North Fork, with lesser amounts across the South Fork due to mixing.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in place for Hillsborough County and surrounding areas starting 11 a.m. on December 9 until 3 p.m. December 10. Biloxi, Mississippi, Birmingham, Alabama, as well as to the southwest and northeast of Birmingham and Montgomery are under a winter weather advisory.

The peak snow accumulations will occur from the middle of the day Saturday into Saturday evening.

We have been fighting dry air this morning which delayed the onset of precipitation...so it is more likely that snowfall accumulations will end up being on the lower side of our forecast range. Much of the state can expect to see 4-5 inches of snow, with 6 inches possible in certain areas. Other news outlets are saying 6 to 8 inches.

Up to 5 inches of snow could fall there today, the weather service said.
