CNN Misreports Date of 'Incriminating' Email to Trump Campaign

Just last week, ABC News reporter Brian Ross committed a similar error when he incorrectly reported that Trump directed former national security adviser Michael Flynn to contact the Russians during Trump's candidacy; actually, Trump's direction came while he was president-elect.

But The Washington Post obtained the email itself and reported Friday afternoon that the message was actually dated September 14, 2016 - a difference that sets Trump Jr.'s receipt 10 days later. "We have updated our story to include the correct date, and present the proper context for the timing of email".

President Donald Trump took a pointed shot at CNN and the media during his rousing speech at a Florida campaign rally on Friday night, blasting the cable news giant for a correction it issued hours before he hit the stage.

Although, point of clarification, CNN only corrected the story and has not apologized or disciplined their reporters as of this posting.

Trump Jr last month released a series of private Twitter exchanges between himself and WikiLeaks during and after the 2016 election, including pleas from the website to publicise its leaks.

"Candidate Donald Trump, his son Donald Trump Jr., and others in the Trump Organization received an email in September 2016 offering a decryption key and website address for hacked WikiLeaks documents, according to an email provided to congressional investigators", CNN reported.

Congressional investigators are trying to determine whether the individual who sent the September email is legitimate.

Pakistan Allows Kulbhushan Jadhav to Meet Wife, Mother on December 25
India had asked for "sovereign guarantee" from Pakistan that it would ensure safety and security of Jadhav's wife and mother. I can only share that in their reply Pakistan has given permission for spouse and mother to go and meet Jadhav.

CNN originally reported the email was released September 4 - 10 days earlier - based on accounts from two sources who had seen the email.

Earlier that morning, CNN reported that during the election, WikiLeaks gave Don Jr. accesses to hacked DNC emails before they were made public.

Mr Trump Jr, according to sources who spoke to CNN, said the messages he shared were akin to speaking to any major media outlet.

The full email - which was first described to CNN as being sent on September 4, 10 days earlier - indicates that the writer may have simply been flagging information that was already widely available.

CBS News had confirmed CNN's initial report but also later issued a correction. The new details appear to show that the sender was relying on publicly available information.

"I hope this information help (sic) you", the email said, with the writer noting that the "huge" archive of emails stolen from the Democratic National Committee was 678 megabytes.

A one-digit mistake by CNN has armed President Trump with new ammunition for another fusillade against the media.
