Netflix releases dark teaser trailer for science fiction television series Altered Carbon

The first season, which consists of 10 episodes, will premiere February 2, 2018.

Netflix have released the first trailer for new upcoming sci-fi series Altered Carbon, which appears to blend Blade Runner with sprinkles of Westworld.

The show, based on the 2002 sci-fi novel by Richard K. Morgan, revolves around human beings who can digitally store their personalities.

The epic new show has been described by IMDb as a world 'where consciousness is digitized and stored in cortical stacks implanted in the spine, allowing humans to survive physical death by having their memories and consciousness "re-sleeved" into new bodies'.

He plays Takeshi Kovacs, the last remaining member of an elite squad of soldiers who is killed only to wake up centuries later in the body of a disgraced cop. Earth's wealthiest man, Laurens Bancroft, then hires him for an unusual and honestly pretty freaky task: Figure out who murdered his former body.

Ultimately, Altered Carbon is going to be that show.

Oklahoma QB, Lake Travis Alumnus Baker Mayfield Named Heisman Finalist
He's led Oklahoma to an 12-1 mark thus far, which included a Big 12 championship and a birth in the College Football Playoff. The Sooner quarterback finished with the second most passing yards in the country, piling up 4,340 through the air.

Need a new body?

Our guess is that with Netflix spending big bucks on this show, the estimates close to 6-8 million per episode, a second season has probably already been ordered as well and is in progress. Canadian outlet The Province reported that Netflix moved into a state-of-the-art studio in British Columbia that could accommodate hundreds of staff, and Gizmodo wrote that per-episode spending could end up in the millions.

Are you excited to see Altered Carbon when it premieres on Netflix next year?

Either way, the new series certainly fits with the Netflix ethos of investing more and more in its original programming as competing streaming services crop up and further splinter rights to existing film and TV.

Altered Carbon stars Joel Kinnaman, Kristin Lehman, Chris Connor, Antonio Marziale and Hiro Kanagawa.
