LaVar Ball won't thank Trump - but he did send him shoes

"China already said, 'OK, you made a bad mistake, we're going to drop the charges.' That's the punishment they made", LaVar said in the TV interview. "He's out of there".

LiAngelo was a freshman with the Bruins but was indefinitely suspended by the team after a shoplifting incident in China along with teammates Cody Riley and Jalen Hill, an event that not only brought embarrassment to the school but was in direct violation of the university's student code of conduct against theft.

While all three basketball players thanked Trump at a news conference once they were back on US soil, LaVar Ball has played down Trump's role in bringing them home, prompting furious tweets from the president. While LiAngelo may never have been considered an NBA prospect by NBA teams, trying to get drafted without the benefit of playing for a major college basketball program won't help his chances.

"I sent him three pair - red, white, and blue - to show him we patriotic", Ball said.

As of now, it certainly looks like the Ball's affiliation with UCLA is over.

"I'm not sitting back and waiting", Ball said.

LaVar plans to train his son on his own to get him drafted to the National Basketball Association, where he'd join older brother Lonzo Ball, who's a Los Angeles Lakers rookie guard. "Now we over here, we got to serve some more punishment?" Trump then tweeted he "should have left them in jail".

LiAngelo, who is considered a long shot to be drafted, will instead focus on his National Basketball Association prospects, his father said. Ball's youngest son, LaMelo, who is slated to follow his two older brothers to UCLA, was yanked out of Chino Hills High School so LaVar Ball can homeschool him. "We respect the decision he and his family have made, and we wish him all the best in the future".

However, a source at UCLA told ESPN's Arash Markazi that this is probably the end for the Ball family at the school. There are also eligibility questions with LaMelo as he prepares for a custom sneaker with Big Baller Brand.
